WHAT IS SEX THERAPY ?

It’s okay! Sexual concerns are common. You are not alone.

43 percent of women and 31 percent of men report experiencing some type of sexual dysfunction during their lifetimes.*

Sex therapy is a type of talk therapy that’s designed to help individuals and couples address medical, psychological, personal, or interpersonal factors impacting sexual satisfaction.

What are the types of sexual dysfunction? *

Sexual dysfunction generally is classified into four categories:

  • Desire disorders: lack of sexual desire or interest in sex.

  • Arousal disorders: inability to become physically aroused or excited during sexual activity.

  • Orgasm disorders: delay or absence of orgasm (climax).

  • Pain disorders: pain during intercourse.

How do I know if sex therapy is right for me?

Physical and emotional intimacy and sexual health are essential components of a person’s overall wellbeing.

A way to determine if sex therapy is right for you is to explore if the quality of your life and your relationships are greatly impacted by sexual dysfunction, shame or past sexual trauma. Or if a lack of intimacy or difficulty communicating about sex, sexual health and body image issues with a partner is a source of distress, anxiety for you.
